  1. The only threats that Minecraft have ever faced are pay-to-win scam servers, Bugrock Edition's deliberately predatory shop practices concerning cutting up skins and the emotes, and this moderation garbage.

  2. I want to think that on that video from Mojang is the developers saying that the "Husband" is Microsoft and "Mobbo" is the chat report system and that they warned us 2 years ago

  3. The need for the "universal" application of the chat moderation does seem to ignore that we are free to run most if not all versions of Minecraft, from Alpha to 1.19.1, that we wish. Therefore, wouldn't a server running 1.17 lack this ability? Or will Mojang be pushing updated code to all older versions too? Or start limiting multi-player to the 1.19.1 and later releases only? This isn't the sort of software where 100% of us use the most recent version, after all (heck, some of us went a decade or longer without updating Windows XP or Win7. ).

We seem focused on potential for false reports and bans, but not on how they plan to implement the code to 100% of users.

On a side note, what percentage of users use multi-player? Aside from bukkit servers back in 2011 or so, I've never used a Minecraft server.

  4. You have to be delusional to believe the system won't be automated. They won't tell you that because it isn't a good PR. Bots are fairly advanced that they will solve majority of the reports. As for the remaining few reports that didn't get solved, "oh well, nobody will find out".

As for not having an option to opt-in or not, I will modify my game to bypass that nonsense if I have to. I don't play on public servers or even their realms for that matter. As long as I don't stream or make videos about it, then it is my game, my rules.

  5. To add to this, I don't think permanent bans are a fair system, obviously I understand that mojang might not have the resources to go through every ban and evaluate an exact punishment but the permanency of a punishment is not a fair verdict for simple profanity, I believe there should also be an Appeal system in place for punishments that are unfair. As such kinds of errors can be easily expected when trying to moderate such a large and complex player base. It also shines a light on toxic communities, who strictly choose to be unsafe for certain players due to a competitive environment. I believe mojang should allow these communities to exist under their own permission, like a paid pass or application. Not because this system is imperfect and dysfunctional, but rather because this system is aimed to make minecraft a safer place for children, and as everyone is aware, the minecraft player base isn't consisted of children only. I think it's only fair that there would be a separation between "Child" and "Adult" rather than both having to both follow guidelines that make the game less enjoyable for one of the two groups.

  6. Dunno why they can't just says the truth, and explain how chat moderation is marketing related, as a clear example I would compare it to the Tumblr banned hashtags. It's a marketing move that allows investors and adversor to join with their money more safely; it has nothing to do with 'create a safe place for players'

  7. 6:15 its not exactly a clear message, the onscreen question was about bots within servers, so bots could be involved after a player report has been made. They also stated that a ban can only be applied if a human has verified the report, however that leaves opportunities for bots to filter out reports, which could cause false negatives, and if a human decides youve sent enough "invalid" reports, perhaps they would ban the account sending the reports

  8. I'm not sure that it works everywhere, but in a cracked launcher with meteor client I was able to connect to my aternos server with an account that is banned from multiplayer with the help of alt manager

  9. Talking about a company WAY overstepping the bounds of free speech … I will NOT be playing on any 1.19.1 or later servers. Mojang just blew themselves up.

  10. I'm kinda happy, that I only play on Servers with people I know and trust. Also mostly, I am the one taking care of administration. We never really had any problems. But if we ever have any bad blood, I would fear giving people a weapon to harm you just out of spite.
All in all, I am not a fan. Solves a problem I never had and might cause problems if someone really gets vindictive for some reason.

  11. I have a question. What would happen if a player with a non premium account joins a server with the name of a mojang employe and starts typing slurs? How would the report system answer to this.

  12. i wonder if vanillia tweaks will make a antichat-reporting mod/datapack (if you can even fit it into a datapack anyways (probably not)) to get rid of the chat-filter and chat-reporting feature

  13. Thank god, you know up until this point I felt really unsafe playing Minecraft. The other players frightened me and the thought of what they could possibly say or do left me constantly on edge. I feel much safer now that I can ban anyone who makes me feel unsafe.

  14. I love how some of us learned nothing from those last 2 years
it always starts slow, it has to, for most if us to accept it.
And restrictions on speech ruled by a corporation sounds kinda like sonething that could be a problem

  15. It seems like a really bad idea because I feel like there's just going to be that one dude that just sits there reporting every single message that can be taken out of context

  16. "No automation" is a lie, it is simple maths. It is way too expensive to pay enough people to deal with all reports. At best they will employ enough people to deal with complaints, but even that seems not particularly likely. "give people tools" is clearly also a lie. Otherwise it would be opt-in AND server owners would be informed AND get to decide. And "mojang isn't reading your messages" is hardly any consolation if I have to treat any message I send as if it will be used against me in court.

  17. This feature has made me scared to join large servers that may be targeted by trolls, such as Hypixel. I no longer feel comfortable going on large servers knowing the admins have no control over my safety.

I will say, this video was amazing. You did a great job stating the facts and arguing both sides without making any side seem wrong. Thank you for this video, and how it sums up 1.19.1 perfectly, warts and all. You are doing amazing work and making improvements to how you convey information that are for the better.

  18. "we originally wanted to introduce the system as opt in to give our players the false hope of controlling their own server before pulling the rug under them when it was too late" oh no! mojang couldn't find the time to lie to us again! poor mojang, good to know their word truly means nothing
happy to know they communicate openly with their gentlemans club of youtubers that apparantly deserves better communication

  19. Roblox veterans will know how pretty much every single statement "Mojang" has put out either is already false, or will become false at some point in the future. Human moderators looking at every single report? Doesn't scale, there WILL be robot mods sooner or later. No risk of false bans? According to the comments on this video, there's already a mod to spoof SIGNED messages to get players false banned from Minecraft (nearly identical to a recent controversy in the Roblox community where an API function whose entire purpose is to send messages on a player's behalf was exploited for all it's worth and thousands of false bans resulted… at least Roblox started undoing those bans once it came out they screwed up, Microsoft WILL NOT – note the "no chance of appeal" note on most bans under this new system – unless the falsely banned player was a high profile Minecraft YouTuber). Not snooping on chat unless it's actively reported? One blocklist of banned words sending automatic reports later, and… And so on.

But let's be clear about one thing, and one point in the video Xisuma is completely correct about. This decision for forced chat moderation came from Up High (Microsoft itself), and those Down Below (Mojang) had no say in the matter, no authority to make an opt-out mechanism (and they're probably going to be ordered to make a way to detect the No Reports mod and other bypasses, if they haven't already been told to get working on it). Don't be mad at Mojang, be mad at Microsoft for trying to Xbox Live-ify Minecraft. This was always the endgame for forced Microsoft Account integration (and they're probably going to go after "multiple accounts being used on the same computer at the same time" next, so RIP in pepperonis to the Hermits' camera accounts)…

  20. 1. Parents are responsible for their kids, not companies (and definitely not players!). The reporting feature could be avoided easily by just allowing parents account to whitelist certain servers that the kid can join (instead of just enabling / disabling multiplayer)
    2. Disabling LAN access if you're banned but allowing you to open LAN servers is not a feature, it's a flaw. I don't think any thoughtful developer would have forgotten about this logical flaw.
    3. Mojang secretly communicating only with content creators makes me want to trust their (written) word even less. This is not how you communicate with your community and definitely not how you build back trust.
    4. You can only report the chat (did Mojang forget signs and buildings?), therefore the only repercussion should be chat-related.

  21. There is a 0% chance I trust their "professional" moderators, and it is not 'communication' if they only talk to content creators, particularly those that agree with them.

  22. This moderation system will be abused by Microsoft to promote their political ideology of feminism and oppressing those that contradict feminism, primarily for profit.
