Minecraft Viki (video wiki) ➜ https://minecraft.viki.gg

The new 1.20 snapshot completely overhauls the smithing table and turns it into an armor modification station to apply cosmetic trim.

  1. i mean this is cool but also WHY, why make it so much more tedious to just get to the end of the game so you can start actually having fun?
now you have to mine a whole lot more, basically more than double the diamond cost of any piece of armor and or equipment, and makes losing your armor a legitimate reason to probably quit a world…….

  2. Would be cool if the tamplates add a little bonus effect
Exemple: the tamplate found in nether adds a bonus related to lava
Maybe infinite lava resistance or something

  3. Surprised there's no black black, not like a dark grey or something like netherite. Maybe charcoal could do that! Not normal coal though, because that's not an art tool like charcoal is, and also charcoal needs a use.

It'd also be cool if you could have a radiant orange with blaze powder!

    Can't wait for tool customizations.

  4. Wow insane that Minecraft is still receiving fairly big updates this much later after it's release, one game that really never did any wrong by anyone, always been good.
I may not play as much as I did when I was 12, if at all, but it's a cool game to go back to. Glad that every time I go back there is new stuff to explore

  5. It would be really cool if they added buffs for each template that buffed you at the location you find the templates. Like +1 damage or defense in fortresses or end cities or whatever, like yeah now its harder to get but its even better and there's more than cosmetic incentive to collect all templates

  6. I dont understand why the trims are so expensive. netherite makes sense since if it was cheap its not even worth it to add, but with trims its entirely cosmetic, having it be 7 diamonds for 1 is a bit steep. and also tools should get trims too imo

  7. They should have different gameplay effects for each, for instance eye would give greater sight/render distance, tide one should give you greater swim speed or redstone trim should make you be able to emit a redston signal by standing on redstone dust or something, maybe diamond trim would reduce damage for swords, and netherite trim reduces damage for axes, and emerald trim would make villagers have cheaper trades. I think that would be really cool.

  8. I think it's too expensive, I've got the resources on my main world… but still, they've made netherite very expensive now. and 7 diamonds for cosmetics?

I think the template should be reusable, similar to a bucket when crafting cake.

  9. God Minecraft's come such a long way. I've always liked the idea of accessorizing armor with details like this, but never thought they would actually consider doing it! Now I can only imagine people having "Armor Rooms" in their house with every armor combination set physically possible lmao. This is genuinely so cool.

Also just seeing this, and remembering how Minecraft started, it's mind boggling to see how far Minecraft has come as a game.
