Axolotls are indeed critically endangered, there is currently only 700-1200(estimated) by scientists, the axolotl is an amphibian which is dying out due to invasive species(perch, tilapia), Pollution, and habitat loss due to humans.
These amphibians are the most studied amphibian in history, (unlike other salamanders) they retain their larvae stage form, and arent able to stay out of water since they dry out quickly.
Axolotls (unlike geckos, geckos are only able to partly heal their limbs) they are able to splice themselves perfectly to heal parts of their brain, eyes, jaw, spine, limbs, and tail, good as new.
They also can regrow other axolotls parts to themselves, (like an arm, will merge its skin and blood cells together to form one, or multiple arms, whatever the scientist is trying to do lol,)
