About this video: In this video, we show you how to download the Fabric 1.17.1 mod loader. This will allow you to install Minecraft mods in 1.17.1 using the Fabric mod loader. The 1.17.1 Fabric mod loader is a Minecraft mod loader similar to the Forge mod loader, but it runs Fabric mod. The biggest benefit to using Fabric over Forge is that Fabric normally updates much quicker than Forge. The downside is that less mods use Fabric. If you want to play the mods mods possible, you will want to use Forge.
Let’s jump right on into how to download Fabric 1.17.1 in Minecraft. You can find the Fabric download page in the description above. When you click the link, it will take you directly to the Fabric download page. On this page, you will be able to download the Fabric installer by clicking the ‘Download installer’ button. This will start the Fabric installer downloading. You will need to keep or save the Fabric installer depending on your browser.
Finally, it is time to install Fabric 1.17.1. This is really easy. Just right-click on the Fabric file we downloaded, click on ‘open with’, and select ‘Java’ from the list. Then, click ‘okay’ to open up the Fabric Launcher. In the Fabric Launcher, make sure that 1.17.1 is selected. Then, click ‘install’. Fabric will the be added to Minecraft 1.17.1. The only reason you may have an issue if you haven’t played Minecraft 1.17.1 before. If so, go play it really quick without any mods, Fabric will be able to be installed.
Now that you have Fabric, it is time to install some Minecraft mods with Fabric. As far as downloading Minecraft mods, make sure that when you are using the Fabric loader, you are downloading Fabric mods for it. These are usually marked for Fabric on the mod’s download page. You may also need the FabricAPI as it is required for a lot of Fabric mods in 1.17.1. We have the FabricAPI linked above if you need it.
After you have your Fabric Minecraft mods downloaded, we can move on to how to install Fabric mods in Minecraft 1.17.1. To do this, just press the Windows Key on your keyboard and ‘R’ at the exact same time. This will open up your Run app. In this app, type ‘%appdata%’, and hit enter. Your .minecraft folder will open. You should see a ‘mods’ folder here. If not, create one. Now, to install mods in Minecraft 1.17.1 with Fabric, just drag-and-drop the Fabric mods you downloaded into this folder. You now have your Fabric mods installed!
You aren’t completely finished when Fabric 1.17.1 is installed and the mods are added because you still need to make sure you launch it correctly. To do this, open up the Minecraft launcher, click the little arrow next to the play button, select the Fabric 1.17.1 installation, and click ‘Play’. After you do this, Minecraft 1.17.1 will open up with Fabric installed!

What do I do if I have a folder for mods but it's for forge?
So i followed everything you did, but when i went to launch minecraft it gave me a failed to launch message, saying "could not find required mod: minihud requires [malilb @ [>=0.10.0-dev.22]} then under it it said "Creating Empty clause". Any idea why this happened or how to fix it

I already have forge installed, would I have to make another mods folder? Or do I make two folders inside the mods folder, one for forge and one for fabric? Or do I need to get rid of Forge entirely?

Question, if I want to have both fabric and forge mods, do they need separate mod folders? I'm having to re-install stuff because of the new launcher (but needed to get fabric for the first time for something) and I just want to make sure I don't screw anything up.

you dont understand how stupid i'am these are litteraly the only tutorials i can watch because you go so in depth with everything like idk even know i need to download java and i would have given up if you didnt say anything seriously a legend (when i say stupid i meant it i litteraly took two hours to do this even with the guide.)
