Featured servers are the backbone of online play on Minecraft Bedrock Edition, and they’re promoted and supported by Microsoft and Mojang. However, there are also other servers on Bedrock as well, known as non featured servers, which can be played on Minecraft Windows 10 Edition, Minecraft Pocket Edition (known as MCPE), but not consoles, such as Xbox, PS4/PS5, and Nintendo Switch. Given that the majority of the playerbase CAN play on non-featured servers though, one begins to wonder if featured servers are anti-competitive, and if Minecraft featured servers are killing off other, less popular servers. I explore these questions in this video, talk about why it’s not exactly simple to start a server from scratch on MCBE, visit some non-featured servers from a range of categories like pay-to-win skyblock and prisons and some Minecraft Bedrock Hypixel ripoffs, and discuss whether Bedrock featured servers are hindering the development and progress of non-featured servers. All of this Minecraft commentary, over some RTX shader cinematics, Minecraft server gameplay, and some Hive Skywars as well.

BedrockTogether is a app to play non featured servers on console btw
In my perspective, the only unfair thing about featured servers is how some servers with 'lower quality' (Pixel Paradise *ahem*) are featured there just because it is a quick cashgrab for Microsoft, and other non-featured servers with better content is neglected since it equals no quick money.
Flanba network could've been a great featured server if only….
tbh featured servers aren't bad cuz Microsoft supported them zeqa is growing and it will take years for them to even have a drop or maybe even an increase of players.so at the end of the day,to make a successful server, just give some effort to it.amazing vid potato

The GTA server you mentioned was being updated. It is actually pretty enjoyable and typically has 40+ people online, so you can normally find some action.
There are many servers which deserve to be in the featured server list.. unfortunately we got servers like Pixel Paradise 🙁

If some of the people watching didn’t know, you can make the Minecraft server’s tab a lot less infuriating by installing a resource pack (FoxyNoTail made a great one) which essentially hides all the featured servers, leaving only the ones you chose to put on your list. You can still add the featured servers that you actually care about by using their IP addresses and adding them like any other non-featured server (Hive, Galaxite, and Cubecraft can all be added using their IP addresses and I’m pretty sure every other server can). My favorite part about this is that the servers don’t pop up in a random inconsistent order (like the featured servers would, which was really annoying), but instead they show up in the order I last played them just like on Java edition. And of course I don’t have to waste my time scrolling through servers I have no intention to play on like pixel paradise and mineville. Hopefully I was able to help someone 🙂

Think how many bedrock players are on console and you need to jump through hoops to even be able to try and join a non featured server so most don't. So what servers are you left with mineplex that is super laggy, lifeboat that is pretty bad now, mineville and pixel paradise that are just terrible leaving: hive, cubecraft and galaxite which are good and high quality just not that much games in hive and galaxite for example and cubecraft is great just the server system could be better

Just a dumb idea but maybe they should have a tab for servers u choose to play on and another for featured servers. Might take up more space or just decrease the tab size, which could be a bit of a downside for mobile players, but having the featured servers be the first thing and in ur face, especially for children, who make up like 85 percent of the bedrock playerbase, really encourages you to play on those rather than go out and look for other bedrock servers. Mojang might make the featured servers tab extra shiny or bigger but id think thatd be a bit of an improvement over what we have now.
Actually the long term game space including skyblock (i know featured servers have that though like a hypixel like format with more features and functions)/factions /vanilla and even off road modes like pixelmon,lifesteal,anarchy etc thus if a server offers this play experience then it sure has great potential

You can do this on consle but you need a specific ipv4
Unfair competetivness like this is bad for the end user in the long run in my opinion. There are 3 good featured servers and they are competing against each other, slowly creating better content to outpace eachother and getting comfortable at the top.

Just one thing you said "probably one quarter to one third of the player base can't play non featured servers" no that's way too high of a percentage. I'm a big fan of Minecraft bedrock even I admit that if most people have to choice to play bedrock or java they'll take java any day the reason that its more popular is because of all the mobile and console players that wanna play Minecraft and don't have a really nice pc. I don't have statistics to back this up but I would be willing to put serious money on less that 10% of bedrock player people on pc especially since the version don't transfer so you would have to buy it again if you already owned the Xbox PlayStation or pocket versions

Nethergames is not a ripoff anymore, they dont use hypixel maps and they put a lot of effort into their games they cant just copy and paste the code, i think ur undermining nethergames a lot

As a NetherGames staff member, I feel like NetherGames is less of a Hypixel ripoff than it used to be. However, I think it would never become featured, due to it’s very unoriginal past. I think featured servers are a bad idea for the community, as almost half of them (lifeboat, mineville, pixel paradise) are literal dogwater. It feels like hive, cubecraft and galaxite are the only real featured servers, and the rest are just hopeful money grabbing schemes by Microsoft. This might deter new Minecraft players from the game, as they would only see 3 playable servers, and ignore the non featured ones.

I don't know for sure if featured servers are good or bad, but removing the bad servers (you know which ones I am talking about) is really needed, as well as adding other servers that are good.
