For me I usually find it by accident and take the loot and sometimes take all the blocks and leave no trace(I usually use cheats in survival coz I'm such a noob that I can barely kill a zombie)

I found a seed with a mesa biome next to a jungle that has a lush cave with a hole to a ancient city with the silence armor trim, reply for the seed.
Tbh the villagers are so idiot and dumb, MY cartographer gave me a woodland mansion map which was like 6000 blocks away and then on my way to loot tye ocean monument, I found a woodland mansion which was like only 600 blocks awayπ
I found a wooden mansion but i burned it because I already got the loot
