It can hold an anvil but not a feather because the feather item is an entity and not a full block, and the anvil placed is a full block If you drop the anvil item as an entity then it would make the dripleaf bend
Since the feather is considered an item and not a block the feather activates the drip leafs code but if you would drop the anvil as an item it would activate the drip leaf as well
