Minecraft 1.21 is BIGGER than you think! Here's Why.

Minecraft Viki (video wiki) ➜ https://minecraft.viki.gg

Really on my “here’s why” trend lately.
Today, I discuss what I think is the single biggest change to Minecraft in actual years, and why it is so sad to see hardly anybody talk about it. Minecraft 1.21 really changes how content will be made for minecraft and I don’t think people fully understand the tools Mojang is giving us with this update.

  1. Hello all! I am currently working on two video essays! One is about Apex Legends and the other about Stardew Valley! The duality of man, I know.

This video is a sort of intermediate video to keep you guys watching while I work on these videos. Thanks for being here! Love ya! ❤

  2. I think vaults shouldn’t be fully locked to make them more replay able, like a 30 minute cooldown on a vault could make them better than going really far just to get the same loot sometimes.

  3. Say what you want about this update, But lets all agree that this update is better than 1.20 update.
Edit: Thank's for the likes & Sorry for the war that i started.

  4. People don’t realize 1.21 is probably close to comparable in quality and number of features to 1.14. 1.14’s features were a lot more wide-spread throughout the world and was something you were forced to interact with more while 1.21’s features aren’t that way, which could be a strength or weakness. You could argue 1.14’s texture overhaul was bigger but 1.21’s datapack overhaul is probably comprable. And 1.21 adds more balance to the game rather than breaking it like 1.14 did.

  5. I was feeling like the 1.21 update was just gonna be another meh update before watching this video but you actually made me excited for the update and really made the update a whole lot more interesting for me, though I was already happy with the dog variants because they are all cute. Anyways, good job on this video! I really liked the video even though I don't care for NBT tags or commands all that much lol

  6. I personally see infinite potential with trial spawners and vaults.

I’m not sure this would ever come to vanilla, but I can see most of the loot containers in most structures being fully or partially replaced with vaults, and all old monster spawners being replaced with the new trial spawner.

The trial spawner has a number of properties that makes it intrinsically superior to the regular spawner. It cannot be accidentally destroyed. It cannot be abused as a mob grinder because it has a cool down. It functions as a container with a built in challenge that is never depleted. And it scales its mob spawns to the number of players in multiplayer.

There’s no reason why every spawner containing structure shouldn’t have its spawners function this way. It’s inherently better game design.

The only thing that is missing from trial spawners is that it cannot be deactivated by light like the original spawner. This is a somewhat iconic feature of the original spawner and is intuitive as light prevents natural mob spawns.

But light sensitivity is something that could easily be added and would go good with certain structures where spawners have always worked that way, such as classic mob dungeons or the Mineshaft. It can have the effect of pausing the challenge until the spawner is reactivated by darkness.

Come to think of it, why not play around with spawner deactivation mechanics too? Some spawners can be impossible to deactivate like the current trial spawner. Other spawners could be light sensitive like the classic mob spawner. Maybe spawners in the nether are temperature sensitive and will not spawn mobs if it’s too cold. Maybe spawners in aquatic dungeons can only spawn mobs in water. Maybe spawners in jungle and desert dungeons are sensitive to redstone power. Maybe there are spawners that are sensitive to vibrations. So many possibilities.

  7. Video aside, and with all due respect, two big weaknesses with the Trial Chambers I noticed are:
They are very easy to cheese with lava buckets; I stumbled this upon myself. For this reason, I think some of the mobs should get Fire Res on higher difficulties.
Mob infighting, which you have mentioned before; your solution is a good one.

  8. The Apex Legends video will be interesting, I hope you mention the rigged matchmaking system! This whole video was nice tho, I liked that you mentioned what the NBT data changes meant for custom map makers & devs, but the explanations of what the changes meant were very confusing.

  9. The datapack changes for this update is insane and we’re likely getting a few more before the update is out, it’s showing a lot of promise for future features and I think datapacks will be able to be more accessible for more people and even make modding easier because they’re opening up these things for us to play with this. This is a great update for customization and multiplayer especially because datapacks will let those doing their own servers to curate the experience to be more personal. We are also likely getting custom items and blocks because of current bug fixes and component changes (there was a bug fix from 2014 that was about blocks not retaining enchantments or a rename in an anvil when placed and broken that was marked as won’t fixed and now it’s reopened) this update is good and shows more promise than the previous 2 for future updates. I think mojang has been playing the long game when it comes for updates and these features will be beneficial for Minecraft’s future and longevity

  10. i just hope they give the crossbow a small buff so that its even more useful and viable without the need of fireworks to explode everything. maybe add some armor penetration to piercing damage so power still has a use but then the crossbow is a good weapon to use against armor instead

  11. Another thing that's worth noting is that they are trying a lot harder to make the actual ride towards release consistently hype, which allows them to make almost free marketing. For instance they chose to release the 5 paintings first, get us excited for that, and then add 15 more immediately after. They teased a new music disc and then we got 3. The mace was revealed in advance with a series of small clues, before actually getting to play with it. There has not been many dull snapshots in 2024, as every week they introduce some major new future even closing in on the end. Unlike before, 1.21 really does make me want to play Minecraft in a way some prior updates have failed to for very long.

  12. I think the sheer amount of changes in this version to what you can do in vanilla will lead to a lot of datapacks being genuine replacements for mods, which is awesome because there's so much less hassle in just putting a datapack into your world.

  13. I really want them to add keys and vaults to other dungeons already in the game. It would be a lot of fun to go to a bastion or ocean monument on level V and get some cool stuff !

The ocean monument especially could finally give us a trident, instead of it being an infuriatingly rare drop from drowned. That’s just too mundane of a way to get such a cool item.

  14. Item components aren’t part of 1.21 they are part of 1.20.5 aka the adored paws drop although 1.21 does add custom enchantments which allows so many cool things that could have never been done before
