Is this Minecraft?

Minecraft Viki (video wiki) ➜ https://minecraft.viki.gg

This isn’t Minecraft. It’s Hytale.
Just kidding. Today I am playing the open source Minecraft, Minetest. It features a lot of the core mechanics of Minecraft with some interesting changes. For example the best place to find Minecraft diamonds is normally -64, where as in Minetest the diamonds don’t start until -1024! It also has a mod called Mesecons which adds the ability to use ‘redstone’, although it functions very differently. This Minecraft clone gave me serious Minecraft nostalgia.

  1. MINETEST! https://www.minetest.net/

Thanks for your patience on the new vids!
I dedicated myself to solving my pop/crackle audio issues that have persisted for years (and multiple PCs and operating systems!). Using a custom output on OBS worked, but it lead to some horrible issues where 3-4 seconds would be cut off the end of each clip… a nightmare for someone who records in 3-4 second clips 😭

  2. As a developer I have mad respect for the guy who made this. I can guess how much work he put into this. Some ideas are genius like the block that transfers a signal. And I loved the improved crafting in the inventory. I think Minecraft can learn a few things from this guy. Well done

  3. Mumbo, it's so good to see someone playing Minetest! I discovered it several years ago and played with it a little, but the community is so small that I haven't put much time into it. The strength of Minetest is how easy it is to mod. This is because they expect you to mod it. It is more of a voxel game engine than a game by itself. There is even a whole modpack out there to turn it into a pretty decent Minecraft clone! I hope to see some more of this sometimes 🙂

  4. Hey just fyi the RS in RS nor latch doesn’t stand for redstone it’s stands for reset set. That’s a thing in regular electronics and programming. So it would still be called a RS nor latch.

  5. i've been dabbling and modding minetest since 2016. minetest is not a game, it's a voxel game engine. when you start up 'vanilla' minetest you are meant to add to it mods to give it the play and visual style you want. OR, create the mods yourself (using LUA scripting) to turn it into whatever voxel style game you want. minimally you should have used some common mods like mobs, inventory UI, more ore blocks, weapons/armor, biomes, etc. if you were that impressed with a bare bones cheese pizza, you should have tried it with some toppings. =)

  6. I've been dying to see big Minecraft Youtuber such as yourself covering Minetest. Glad you enjoyed playing it! I really want to see this game going mainstream, because IMO Minecraft is getting boring and very bloated (I have to install performance mods just to play it). Also, because if more people play it then more devs/modder will join the community and the overall quality of the game/engine increases. The fact that it's free will save so many parents money and decrease the act of pirating Minecraft.

  7. I once took a class about architecture on outschool and we used this very game to organize and build a small town, as well as a few requests from various companies to make their buildings. That's right, i did this instead of school.
