I Turned Minecraft into a Horror Game to Scare YouTubers. Minecraft isn’t scary. So today, I made Minecraft terrifying with jumpscares, monsters, custom items, all without any mods.

Like doctor4t and his Turning Minecraft into a Horror Game to Terrorize YouTubers video. Not Parrot / or any other Lifesteal SMP member. This is a new and original Minecraft idea like HermitCraft or LastLife with Grian and MumboJumbo. This doesn’t use horror mods or show the Cave Dweller Mod, but I Scared YouTubers in Minecraft. Not I Made the Most Terrifying Minecraft Mod or show How I Made the Most Terrifying Minecraft Mod, but I instead how I used the backrooms to turn Minecraft into a Horror Game to scare Youtubers.

  1. Personally I have a very different interpretation of what causes terror, and it effectively boils down to two things; a lack of information, and a lack of control. This is honestly pretty well shown by fnaf of all things, especially in the first game and specifically the first time you play it.

Lack of control comes in pretty clearly I think; you’re locked in a room and you can’t move. Things are coming for you, and you can’t *move*. You can’t run, you can’t hide, you can’t defend yourself, all you can do is delay the inevitable and pray to god you can keep it up long enough to survive.

Lack of information comes in from the sound design and movement of the animatronics. You don’t know what specific sounds mean, so they can (and in a way, do) mean anything and everything. Maybe the weird laugh indicates they’re nearby? Maybe the rustling pots indicates increased aggression? You have no idea, so your brain works itself into overdrive trying to solve a puzzle that you don’t have the pieces for.

To make a real and true scary mod, you’ve gotta incorporate these things. Find a way to wrench control away from the players, add in sounds and signals that may or may not mean something, crank that dread and tension and fear up to 100, and let it all release as the creature finally catches up to them and kills them. I wouldn’t make it a jump scare though, that’s cheap. Maybe make the creature able to alter the layout of the map, so when it’s chasing them, staying just out of sight behind the last corner, it’s deliberately not catching up to them and giving them a chance to run so they get tricked into running into a dead end? Then when they turn around to try and retrace their steps, that’s when the creature comes charging at them for the kill. And only then, if they have the tools necessary, will they have the opportunity to kill it and win, making it both terror and relief, tension and release

    Idk just a thought

  2. An easier way to do the elevator, just have the door shut, shake the screen around a bunch (to make it seem rickety and unreliable), then teleport them to the next floor

Pretty sure that’s how gmod does it and it works pretty well, and it’s not like the players can tell if it’s moving or not when they’re inside

  3. "Even with a blood-thirsty monster chasing you, no one is going to be scared if they're running around a McDonald's Drive-Through"
