About this video: This is our complete step-by-step guide on how to make a Minecraft Java Edition server for 1.17.1. We show everything that you will need to know in order to create a Minecraft 1.17.1 server and make sure that we show how to fix problems you may have when start a Minecraft 1.17.1 before you even have them. We also show you how to play Minecraft 1.17.1 with your friends using your server. So, here is how to make a Minecraft server in 1.17.1!

The first step of making a Minecraft server is actually downloading the Minecraft server files you can find a link in the description above on that will take you to our written guide on starting a Minecraft server in 1.17.1. In that guide, scroll down and you will see a ‘Download Minecraft’ button. Click that button and you will be taken to the Minecraft 1.17.1 server file download page. On this page, you will see a green ‘minecraft_server_1.17.1.jar’ link. Click this link and the Minecraft 1.17.1 server file will begin downloading.

Downloading the server file is just the first step of making a Minecraft 1.17.1 server. Now, you need to create a ‘Minecraft 1.17.1 Server’ folder on your desktop. Move the server.jar file you downloaded into this folder. Next, make sure that you have the correct version of Java. You can find our Java tutorial in the description above. You will also need to run the Jarfix to make sure that your .jar files are actually linked to Java.

After you have Java and have ran the Jarfix, double click on the ‘server.jar’ file you downloaded. A few files will then appear. The most important of which is the eula.txt file. Open this file with notepad, and assuming you agree to the Minecraft EULA, change the ‘eula=false’ string to ‘eula=true’. Then, save the file and double click on the server.jar file again. Your Minecraft 1.17.1 server will now start up!

To join your server, open up Minecraft 1.17.1, go to the multiplayer screen, and use the word ‘localhost’ as your IP. You should then join your server. You are the only person that can join your server this way though. In order for your friends to join your Minecraft 1.17.1 sever, you will need to port forward.

The first step of port forwarding is open up your command prompt and typing ‘ipconfig’ and hitting enter. You will then see a few different numbers. Make note of your IPv4 address and ‘default gateway’ here.

Now, we can move on to port forwarding. Enter your default gateway into your browser like a website. Then login to your router. You will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol. We have a port forwarding tutorial in the description above.

For your friends to join your Minecraft 1.17.1 server, you will need to your public IP. You can find your public IP using the link in the description above. Give this to your friends for them to join.

  1. I can't find the website for my router. Every time I put my Default Gateway in it just takes me to google and their is no way to login. I also tried my other router and it would not load and just said could not connect. Is there anyway to find a way to login?

  2. When I put in my default gateway and search it, nothing shows up and it says my gateway number then "refused to connect". I have searched it multiple times, went back and checked to make sure the default gateway was correct, but it still doesnt work. What should I do?
