Why would you want a minimap mod in Minecraft? Well, a minimap allows you to see the world around at a larger scale. It also lets you easily find different biomes, mobs, and even see where cave systems lead if you are underground. Overall, minimap mods add tons of new features to Minecraft 1.17.1!

The first step of adding Xaero’s Minimap to Minecraft 1.17.1 is actually downloading and install Forge. After you have Forge, we can move on to downloading the Minecraft minimap mod. Specially, we are going to be downloading Xaero’s Minimap for 1.17.1. You can find the Xaero’s Minimap download link in the description above. When you click that link, you will actually be taken to our text tutorial. On this page, scroll down and click the yellow ‘Download Xaero’s Minimap’ button. This will then take you to the Xaero’s Minimap download page. On this page, look at the right-hand sidebar and scroll down to the Minecraft 1.17 section. Under this, you will see a ‘Xaeros Minimap Forge 1.17.1’ version. Click the orange download button next to this versions. Xaero’s Minimap will start downloading after a few seconds. You will need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.

After you have the minimap downloaded, we can learn how to install the Minecraft minimap mod for 1.17.1! To do this, press the Windows Key on your keyboard and ‘R’ at the exact same time. This will open up the Run app. In this app, type ‘%appdata%’ and hit enter. Your Roaming folder will then open up. In this folder, you will have a .minecraft folder. Open that, and you should have a mods folder. If you don’t have a mods folder, create one! Finally, open up your mods folder, and drag-and-drop the Xaero’s Minimap for 1.17.1 into it. You now know how to install Xaero’s Minimap in 1.17.1!

You aren’t completely finished just yet though! You still need to open up the Minecraft launcher, click the little arrow next to the Play button, and select the Forge installation here. Then, click the green play button, confirm you are playing modded Minecraft, and click Play again. Minecraft 1.17.1 will now open up with your minimap mod installed!
