What shader are you using
Oh shoot the depslate coal ore is rare? Bruh i just mine some and smelted it up
For the first tip you could just turn your gamma to 20 then you can easily see in the caves.
Or get a x ray pack + night vision pack

You know what's funny? The cave part at the beginning – I was in a cave which looked exactly like the one Gorillo had! Even the diamonds were in the right place
Imagine if we had ancient bonemeal. Works the same, just double the growth per sprinkle. With a minor chance to produce carrots, melons and trees with golden fruit.
If you need gold you can also look in mesa biomes.
You can find diamonds pretty easily if they are glowing like stars…
