I've done this on SMPs by rebuilding my very first base (and light house) that I made back in Minecraft Alpha, then updated over the years. It's amazing to see all of the detail new blocks add to builds in each version.

I do this all the time! Taking builds I really like that I've built before and changing up palettes, roof designs, certain details, etc. to fit whatever style I'm going for.
