Explosion damage isn't technically based on leggings, its just the lower part of the player. Thats why having any block between your lower half and an explosion source will negate most or all damage.
This also depends on angles and the percentage of your legs protected. Having the entire block between will reduce most damage, whereas if you're at an angle vertically or horizontally, as to have some of the block protecting you, but some of you is still exposed, you'll take more damage

in creative mode you can put any enchantment onto any item with no limitation. putting flame on an amethyst shard wouldn’t work in vanilla survival^^
The Gapple/ Notch Apple trick doesn't work. I've tested it twice in 1.20.4 and the hearts disappear both times when the absorption effect is finished. I even tested it with my inventory open, like you did. Either you're faking as well, or there was something you did differently.
Edit: The 4 block jump one is real on the other hand, but the method is a slight bit more complex than just holding jump. Instead, you need to "almost hold it" and time it so your second jump lands right on the edge of the platform.
