The second it wasn't said that it would be hostile if you attack it but rather it is sometimes hostile gave it all away since it depends on loghting or whatever. Attack at night and in caves and whatnot but peaceful in the day kind of thing
I could tell it was a spider because of how you worded the first question. You said "sometimes it attacks the player and sometimes it doesn't" instead of the usual "it won't attack you unless you attack it first" and I think only spiders and piglins have that property
