How Terraria is The Perfect Videogame (and why Minecraft will never be)

It is my belief that Terraria is the perfect videogame, while Minecraft on the other hand missed out on the opportunity to achieve perfection.

  1. Ok so it seems like a lot of people are missing the point of this comparison, which is probably my fault for not making it clearer. The point is not to say that "Terraria is better than Minecraft, you shouldn't enjoy or play Minecraft because Terraria is more fun". I'm saying that Terraria is the perfect player experience, it does everything that people want a game to do, while Minecraft misses those things pretty hard. Terraria is cheap, there's basically no monetization, it's on a convenient launcher (steam), there's a small team of loving developers who respond to the community, the game has continued to get free updates for over a decade, and modding was made as convenient and accessable as possible for free. Like I said, Minecraft is not impossible to download and play (and mod), but it has enough annoying barriers that will keep far more people from fully enjoying the game. Whereas Terraria has basically none of those barriers. And to take things a step further, Terraria's development team is practically nonexistent compared to the massive team producing Minecraft, which ultimately is all backed by Microsoft. It's Bill Gates Vs. Redigit and somehow Redigit is able to absolutley demolish Minecraft in it's accessibility and ease of use.

As for why I chose to contrast Terraria's perfection to Minecraft's flaws, I mean c'mon I think the best selling video game of all time backed by the ultra giga-corporation Microsoft can handle some criticisms.

P.S. Making Minecraft models is easier than making Terraria sprites, fight me

  2. According to me a perfect videogame is perfect for ewryone, for me Terraria isn't… Terraria is great, I had a great time playing it but there are still a lot of stuff that I didn't like, the thing that I hated the most about Terraria was that there wasn't any creative mode, there was adventure mod but even then to get unlimited access to all items I had to collect a set number of these items. I am a player that enjoys creating (and destroying) therefore I like playing Minecraft but never called it perfect (or at least as far as I can remember). Sometimes, when I really like a game, I continue playing it and grind, this happened on Dorfromantik and I still play this game. I grinded a little bit on Terraria but only played because I had friends playing it. Eventually these friends stopped playing it, to this day Terraria is just sitting in my steam library, waiting to be played. I think the thing that made me leave Terraria was Minecraft and People Playground. Minecraft was in 3d, more possibilities for building; and People Playground gave me endless mods and DOESN'T NEED YOU TO GRIND TO UNLOCK STUFF.

  3. At the end of the day, the fact remains that Minecraft is a 3D voxel game and Terraria is a 2D pixel game. Comparing them at all is dumb; it's comparing apples and a flattened orange peel. Your creative expression is always going to be greater in Minecraft because it has more dimensions, even if the gameplay is better in Terraria because it focuses more on the survival and combat content. They're different games for different people.

  4. 1) I don’t think comparing the installation process is a worthy argument, when asking “which is the better game” I would assume that you own both games and compare them for their quality
    2) Minecraft is so popular BECAUSE it is so simple, the creativity around it comes from the fact that you have to work with what you have but if you are skilled enough, you can create anything. That’s also why I find it weird to even compare Terraria and Minecraft, because at it’s base, Minecraft’s main content is creating, Terraria’s is beating enemies
    3) How dare you use bedrock to compare them

  5. The Development team of Terraria is much better than Minecraft's but I still like Minecraft more solely because of nostalgia
(terraria is one of my favorite game atm though)

  6. I'm clearly a visitor on enemy territory, so all i can say is i respect you prefer terraria, but minecraft is more of my thing although i do most of my gaming through steam which already has everything setted up to play other games

  7. I think it's pretty ok to just blame the Microsoft for this situation Minecraft was a great game but now they are just pissing off the community last month I bought terraria and I'm enjoying it to this day it's so fun and enjoyable

  8. The problem with Minecraft is its developer:
Deluxe Edition exist just because of Bedrock and Microsoft useless Shop Addiction.
USELESS updates, No Bosses (Warden is the only one in like 4 years or +)
    Useless Mobvotes (Useless mobs too)
    False promises (Fireflys, New Biomes…)
Optimization is SO TRASH in Java that most people can't play it without using Mods.
    and much more.

Minecraft could be a Game like Terraria is, a Great game, but the Devs do not care enough about the game.

    Example:

1.9 (Combat Update) and the "Discontinued" Combat Revamp Snapshots. (1.9 IS STILL NOT IN BEDROCK YET)
    1.15 (The BEE update)
    1.17 – 1.19 (The same update split into 3)
Chat Moderation (Majority of the community was against)
    1.20 (The Random Update)

  9. To be completely honest, playing Minecraft solo is unpleasant, unsettling, and unfun. You might tell me that creativity has a lot to do with it; I am aware of that. However, there is fear of being by yourself in a big world. The only other entities you may interact with in the world of Minecraft are blocks. The fact that there is only mining and construction to be done is another factor. Despite the fact that there are bosses, the game can actually be completed in less than 30 minutes with proper effort. Three factors—multiplayer, mods, and youtubers—are a large part of why Minecraft is so well-liked. There aren't nearly enough things to showcase your so called creativity, despite the fact that the developers claim that you can make anything you want. In a game intended for constructing and crafting, there isn't even a chair. I've never once enjoyed playing vanilla Minecraft; instead, I've always enjoyed playing with my best friend, using mods, or watching youtubers. And things are actually becoming worse with the more recent releases. If you don't add mods to spice up the experience with structures and other things, there is no sense of exploration. It is quite unfortunate that the developers are doing nothing with this, as it has such great potential.

  11. I would have enjoyed Minecraft more if Mojang wasnt such a bitch ass game developers

Removing fire flies because its "poisonous to frogs" like bitch just make frogs not eat them or just turn them into flies, Its literally just 2 fucking pixels, if you changed the yellow Pixel into a black pixel it will literally become a fly

Also not adding the shit they promised was the last straw causing me leave minecraft forever, and For some reason adding 1 new biome and 2 new mobs is considered a "major update"

  12. Thought this would just be a biased rant against Minecraft, but you actually made some really good and fair points, and having grown up with Minecraft and stopped playing, I had no clue what state the game is in right now… Minecoins??? Really???

  13. I get what u mean and u made a bunch of good points but both games are amazing in my opinion. I think minecraft is a much better game for just creating freely with features like command blocks and such, also because there is no true creative mode in terraria (only one that makes u more op). I also think minecraft is better for creating because of the infinite world wich terraria doesnt have.

But terraria on the other hand has a much better survival experience with lots of different and cool ores and a multitude of uniqe bosses, enemies, npcs, tools, weapons and even different sages of the game.

i still think both games are amazing.

  14. I played both of these games, both with mods, both with some challenge in mind, both built in, but at least don't fucking compare bedrock with terraria (it's just disrespectful to compare them).
Even comparing java to terraria, both are amazing but different in INSANELY DIFFERENT WAYS. Fuck you i hate this day in general and sorry

  15. minecraft is ironically a game about creativity, but they refuse to add 90% of the basic building blocks like chairs, toilets (haha funny), and tables.

while you can argue "what makes it funner is making those with other blocks", no, you're wrong. it just makes your build more cluttered and messy with a fence and trapdoor or stair and signs.

  17. its not the perfect video game there cant be a perfect video game for two reasons: number one its subjective as is a lot of things and number two being Murphy's law, if it can go wrong it will go wrong so nothing can ever be perfect
