wait… cant u just go to the nether and vein mine all the nerherack you need even with hammer? obsidian isnt something u can not make, so is not the portal lol. Or i missed something?
Most of the comments are what i've thought, about the drawer fix (cards) but I'd like to also suggest some easy peasy pipe to crucible (wood and stone) automation. Also, you'll want to get to the rf hammer and sieve asap. The coal generator or the thermal dynamo is a pretty common go for starters.
The mobs can have a backpack that plays music. The sophisticated backpacks is an amazing mod, with the upgrades available for the backpacks. I've started using them as chests, because they have stack modifiers and a bunch of other good stuff.
The record player sounds you're hearing comes from the Sophisticated Backpacks mod. Every once in a while a mob will spawn wearing a backpack, and the backpack will often play a random Music Disk. If you want to stop hearing the music disks being played by the mobs I believe you have to turn of Note Blocks & Jukeboxes specifically, as the music played is not tied to Mob sounds but is using a feature of the backpacks mod to treat the backpack as though it were a jukebox.
Hypno, don't forget there's a quest book that's very good at telling you how things work. There's quests in the Basic Storage category that tells you about the linking tool you need to use the drawer controller. There's also a configuration tool for locking drawers, as well as customizing the information shown on them.
If you really want to have fun walking up stuff, the old cake ladder trick should work. Stack up cakes, then eat slices out of them. You should be able to go up something like 8 blocks for every block forward. It use to work for horses, but I think they changed horses to prevent it.
The igneous extruder is actually the cheapest option to get netherrack. You have to place rhe redstone block under the extruder, lava on one side, witch water on the other, and then pipe it out into a Drawer, boom, netherrach for days!
Temporarily DISfuctional storage eh Hypno? ;D Its actually pretty good when u link them using the tool as per some of the other comments as u can have separate sets of drawers not connected to the same controller.
Use the linking tool you can even connect drawers apart without trim blocks and instead of keys it uses the configuration tool for all the thing keys did
Igeneous extruder doesnt consume anything and for the storage mod u need the linking tool to link the drawers and they don’t need to be connected to the controller idk how far the range is but more than 10 I think
The irony in this episode is the reason there are no trim blocks is functional storage was made to not require the drawer controller to be touching the drawers to be part of the same network, however in order to do so requires using the linking tool to create the multiblock.. hence the reason the controller doesnt do anything when just placed and not linked

Get the linking card from functional storage. Shift right-click the controller, then right click on the top left drawer, ten on the bottom right drawer. Congratulations. You just linked your drawers to the controller. You can also put the controller wherever you want as long as you've linked the drawers to them. Then you can put things in like you do with the storage drawers controller by feeding things directly into it
You can automate netherrack production with two mechanical drying basins. It turns lava into magma blocks and magma blocks into netherrack. and since you have the market person it should be pretty easy to get the tree you need for the mechanical drying basin and the rest of the Integrated Dynamics mod. (:

Hypno sir i can understand if you don't want to but for a good tutorial id suggest check out system collapse's playthrough efficient and to the point of how the things work in this version 🙂 but as others have said I'm confirming that a linking tool links a controller to draws and configuration tool will do what all the keys did for storage draws and the igneous extruder does not consume the items as they are placed in world catalyst underneath and fluids either side, can make all the stone types from cobble to endstone depending on fluid source and catalyst 🙂 hope this helps to confirm others info.
functional drawers do not need trim they actually dont even have to be connected to other drawers or the controller. with the tool you can connect to controller if they are within range even if they are not touching anything

You have to manually link the drawers to the controller with the tool, it's not like the storage drawers mod where it does it automatically.

it has frames tho lets you use to make your base with hidden lights 🙂

To use the Controller you need to link the drawer to it using a Link Tool, it is right next to the controller in JEI.
The igneous extruder doesn't consume the lava, witch water, or redstone block. It treats it like a cobblestone generator and produces it infinitely.
Have a look at the questbook. I know it explains what's up with the storage drawers, and it probably explains the igneous extruder too.

You can dry lava twice in a drying basin for netherrack. Lava to magmablock to netherrack

In the back pack mod mobs have a chance of spawning with them and play music discs
USE A LINKIING TOOL to tell the controller what drawers it needs to communicate with
Igneous extruders are bomb use them they consume nothing and make the result that you need
