For those who wanna know, understanding the sugarcane farm helps you know how to put it together. The oberver detects when a block is placed in front of it (and other things) and puts out a redstone signal. Then you can use that feature to have it detect when sugarcane grows which can send a redstone signal into a piston which breaks the sugarcane which then can get collected by hoppers or hopper minecarts
